St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, St. Johnsbury

The St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, constructed in 1871, is a combined library and art gallery home to a number of Hudson River School paintings, including the Domes of the Yosemite. The building was presented to the people of St. Johnsbury by Horace Fairbanks, who financed its construction. The Athenaeum was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1996 for its remarkable architecture, well-preserved gallery, and original collections. The Athenaeum continues to serve the Town of St. Johnsbury and surrounding communities. Funding will support repairs to the iconic tower, including framing repairs, replacement of the membrane roof, and restoration of the decorative wooden elements.
