Elise was born in the Midwest, but came to Vermont as a very small child. She fully considers herself a Vermonter despite the anomaly of her birth place… she blames the Army for that.
She graduated cum laude from Cornell University in 1989 with a BA in English and a concentration in African American Literature.
Elise became a SCUBA instructor after college, and went to the island of Bonaire (Caribbean Netherlands) to teach diving for a gap year prior to graduate school. One year turned into 18. She worked several places on Bonaire after her dive instructor job, including Federal Express, and Goddard Catering where she managed HR and did accounting work. She came back to Vermont in 2006, and began working with the Preservation Trust of Vermont in June of that year.
Elise lives in Shelburne with her two sons, and dog, Mimi. She enjoys running, especially on trails, and competing in 5Ks. She also coaches track and field; both the local high school indoor team, and the youth summer league. Her favorite hobby after running and coaching is gardening
