Hildene, the Lincoln Family Home, Manchester
Hildene, the Lincoln Family Home, is the former summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln and his wife, Mary Harlan Lincoln. Robert was the eldest son of Abraham Lincoln and the only child to survive into adulthood. Lincoln descendants occupied the house until 1975, and the house was purchased by the Friends of Hildene in 1978. The property, which includes the buildings, formal gardens, meadows, wetlands, and a Pullman palace car, hosts a wide variety of education programs and has strong partnerships with the local schools. Funds will support the restoration of the roof balustrade and deteriorated porch railings.
