Abenaki Headquarters and Food Pantry, Swanton
Constructed c. 1925, the former auto showroom is now the Abenaki Nation of the Missisquoi tribe’s cultural, educational, and social services. Maquam Bay of Missisquoi is a 501c3 non-profit that serves community members of the State recognized tribe, and has been operating out of the building since the 1990s. The food shelf services expanded during the pandemic, and the group reconfigured the back portion of the building to meet the growing demand. The funds would support masonry repairs, which are part of a larger rehabilitation project that will address a wide range of needs, including deferred maintenance, structural work, accessibility improvements, and MEP upgrades.
